Anton Arensky

4 Etudes, Op. 41

Anton Arensky’s “4 Études, Op. 41” (composed in 1896) is a set of technically demanding yet lyrically expressive piano works that reflect the composer’s distinctive Romantic style. Each étude explores a specific pianistic challenge, combining virtuosic technique with poetic nuance—a hallmark of Arensky’s writing. Unlike many purely technical études, these pieces balance brilliance with musical depth, offering opportunities for both display and interpretation. Rich harmonic language, fluid textures, and melodic elegance reveal Arensky’s gift for crafting intimate yet sophisticated piano miniatures. Though less frequently performed than the études of his contemporaries, this set remains a valuable contribution to the late-Romantic piano repertoire, bridging Russian lyricism with European virtuosity.
